December Daily 2009

Haluaisin niin tehdä tämän, mutta kuinka ehdin kaiken joulutohinan seassa? Haluan tallentaa joulun valmistelut, lasten innon, kiireen ja rauhoittumisen, tunnelman, äänet, tuoksut ja maut. En ole ehtinyt valmistella albumia, kuten Ali Edwards, vaikka se olisikin ollut hauskaa. Päätin koota materiaalin tänne blogiin, joulukuun jokaisena päivänä, ja rakentaa albumin kunhan ehdin. Ennen ensi joulua, lupaan! I would so want to do this, December Daily, but how can I find time among all the other things related to this busy season? I want to document and record the Christmas preparations, the excitement of the children, the rush and the calm, the atmosphere, the smells, sounds and tastes. I haven’t had time to prepare an album like Ali Edwards, although it would have been fun. I decided to collect the material here in my blog for now, every day in December, and put all of it in an album once I have time. Before next Christmas for sure!

Joulumieltä jouduin tänä vuonna vähän etsiskelemään, ihme kyllä, sillä yleensä olen jouluintoilija. Oma kadonnut joulumieleni onneksi on hiljalleen löytänyt tiensä takaisin luokseni. Joululaulujen kuuntelun myötä.  Lukemalla Ali Edwardsin December Daily -projektista. Osallistumalla Jessica Spraguen nettikurssille. Lukemalla joululehtiä. The Christmas Spirit was a bit lost this year, strange enough as normally I am a real Christmas person. Luckily the nice feeling and excitement has slowly found its way back to me by listening to Christmas carols, by reading about Ali Edward’s December Daily -project, taking part in Jessica Sprague’s Holidays in Hand online course and reading Christmas magazines.

Ennen joulukuun alkua on joulua valmisteltu jo reippain ottein. Mitä paremmin on suunnitelmat tehty jo marraskuussa, sitä leppoisampi joulukuusta voi tulla. Netissä on paljon Christmas Plannereita, joita minäkin hyödynsin suunnitellessani tämän vuoden joulua, ensimmäistä omaa jouluamme. Even before December has started there has been a whole lot of Christmas preparations. And I have noticed that the better the plans for Christmas are in November the calmer and more succesful the Christmas will be. Online you can find plenty of different kinds of Christmas Planners, which I also utilized this year when planning our own Christmas for the first time.

Valmistelin joulua edeltävien viikkojen ruokalistan meidän perheelle ja jo nyt olen huomannut sen hyödyllisyyden! Joulukortit ovat myös valmistuneet ajallaan ja ovat valmiita postitettaviksi. Tänä vuonna tein kortit itse, vaikkei se minulle niin mahdottoman tärkeää olekaan. Melkein yhtä mielelläni lähetän valmiita kortteja. Nyt kuitenkin tuli kortti-inspiraatio ja hyödynsin sen. I prepared the dinner menu for our family for the weeks before Christmas. That has already proved to be very useful. I have noticed spending so much of my thinking capacity every day wondering what to cook for dinner. Now it is all sorted beforehand. This year I managed to make the Christmas cards myself. I don’t mind sending just ordinary ready made cards either but this year I got the inspiration to make the cards so decided to make the most of it. They are now ready and going to be sent soon.

Jouluvalot ovat ehdottomat jo marraskuussa, synkässä lumettomassa pimeydessä. Nautiskelen valoistamme, parista kyntteliköstä, pikkujoulukuusesta sekä ulkovaloista niin iltaisin kuin aamuisinkin. Pari joulukukkaa olen myös jo hankkinut ja niistä iloitsen ja ne kuuluvat ehdottomasti jouluuni. Christmas lights are a must in the darkness of November already. I so enjoy our lights on the windows and outside. A couple of Christmas flowers, poinsettias, I have also already got. They definately belong to my Christmas.

Joulukoristeostoksia olen tehnyt hiukan. Vaikea tietää, koska kuusenkoristeita on tarpeeksi, koska meillä ei ole ennen omaa kuusta ollut, kun olemme viettäneet joulua aina muualla.  Vasta kun kuusi koristellaan, se selviää. Onneksi kaupat ovat auki jouluaattonakin, eli ehtiihän niitä koristeita hankkia lisää tarpeen tullen. I have bought some decorations. It is difficult to know if we have enough for the Christmas tree since this is the first time we have a tree on our own home as previously we have always spent Christmas elsewhere. Once the Christmas tree is put up we will see if there is a need for more.

Halusin tehdä pojille joulukalenterin, mutta en keksinyt tarpeeksi kivaa ideaa. Niinpä heille on vain suklaakalenterit. Lisäksi joka päivä T saa nostaa salaisesta pussista yhden pienen kuusenkoristeen, jonka saa laittaa keittiössä olevaan minikuuseen. Lisäksi joka päivä yritämme yhdessä jotakin luovaa ja jouluista. Ideoita toimintaan minulla on vaikka kuinka. Niistä varmasti lisää joulukuun postauksissa! Onneksi itselleni minulla on mitä ihanin joulukalenteri! Ystäväni Hemppa yllätti minut tällä jännittävällä skräppäysjoulukaleterilla. Huomenna saan avata ensimmäisen luukun!!! I wanted to make a nice Christmas calendar for my boys but just couldn’t come up with a good enough idea. So chocolate calendars it is, a bit boring. But in addition to that every day T can hang a little miniature piece of decoration into our mini Christmas tree in the kitchen. Every day I also try to make something creative with him, Christmas related of course. For myself I have the best Christmas calendar ever! My friend Hemppa surprised me by giving this exciting scrapbooking calendar. I wonder what I will find tomorrow from the first little drawer!
