Autumn treats

This blog has been quiet for a very long time. Let’s say it has been on maternity leave! Now my youngest is 17 months old and I am desperate to get back to crafting and baking. So, here we go – in English only to save some time – some yummy baking I did last weekend for our house warming party.

Apple Cake Pops 24 pieces (people actually thought there was an apple inside all of them!)

3 packs of Oreo biscuits

6 tbsp cream cheese

3 tbsp apple jam

1,5 bags of Caramel Candy Melts

Edible Dust (I used Rainbow Dust Edible Silk Ginger Glow)

Cake Pop sticks (I used adorable plastic sticks from Wilton that look like real wooden sticks from a branch)

Marzipan

Edible Glue

1. Crush the biscuits in a blender into fine crumbs.
2. Mix cream cheese and apple jam with the crumbs and form small balls.

3. Let the balls rest in the fridge for an hour or so. Melt a few candy melts, dip the end of the pop sticks into the melts and push then into the balls (see pic above). This helps the sticks to stay in place and prevent the balls from falling off.

4. Melt the Candy Melts and add a teaspoon of oil to make it runnier. Dip the pops into the melts and let them harden in the fridge. Finish with some marzipan leaves and Edible Dust to give the apples a beautiful shimmer.

I used a PME Plunger Rose Leaf cutter for the leaves that I cut from marzipan, let them dry to shape and attached to the apples with edible glue.

Life goes on

Sain skräpättyä kuvan, joka on ollut tulostettuna jo muutaman kuukauden. Tilanne kertoo yhdestä elämän vaikeista asioista: tutista luopumisesta! Tapahtuma sinänsä on pieni, mutta kuitenkin niin suuri pienelle ihmiselle. Itku tuli äidillekin, kun suru oli pienellä niin suuri! Hienosti siitä kuitenkin selvittiin ja polkupyörät sivussa kuvaavat eteenpäin menoa. Näin se elämä menee jatkossakin, erilaisten vastoinkäymisten kautta opitaan ja kasvetaan ja elämä jatkuu.

I managed to scrapbook a photo that was printed already some months ago. It is about one of the hardships in life: giving up the pacifier! It is not a big thing and yet it is life changing for the little person. Even I had tears in my eyes when it was such a sad moment for the little man. We got over it soon and the bicycles on the layout are about moving on. That is what life will be; facing difficulties, learning and growing. Life goes on.

Selfie Layout

Ei kestä enää kauaa kunnes olen neljän pojan äiti. Sitä pohdiskellen tein sivun oman kuvan kera.

It won’t be long and I will be a mother of four boys! I wanted to document some of my feelings in a layout together with a selfie.

CSI #106: Precious mealtime

Hip hei, osallistunpa pitkästä aikaa CSI:n haasteeseen!

Yay! It’s been a while since my last entry to CSI  and here it is, my layout for this week’s challenge.

Tein sivun ihan arkisesta kuvasta, joka itselleni on arvokas. Joululomalla vietettiin ihan arkista päivää siskoni luona, lapset leikkivät, syötiin lounasta yhdessä. Juuri sitä, mitä usein kaipaan ulkomailla asuessani – vierailuja siskojen luona, arjen jakamista, serkkujen yhteisiä leikkejä.

I made a layout using a very ordinary yet meaningful photo. At Christmas I travelled home to Finland and had a chance to spend time with my family. In this photo it is just one ordinary day when we visited my sister, kids played together and we had lunch. Nothing special and so special at the same time as it is what I often miss when living abroad far away from my family: impromptu visits, cousins playing together,  us sisters chatting.

 

 

For the challenge the evidence is clouds,a  quote sticker, gold, circles. The testimony is handwriting in clouds.

Lahjapussit – Gift Bags

On ollut pitkä tauko täällä blogissa ja paljon on tapahtunut sen aikana. Syy askartelutaukoon on ollut sama kuin kaksi vuotta sitten (tämä kuva kahden vuoden takaa):

It’s been a long break here in my blog and lots has happened during the last few months. The reason for the craft break is same as two years ago (pic from 2011):

Neljäs ja varmastikin viimeinen vauva kasvaa mahassa ja vanha tuttu pahoinvointi piinasi jälleen muutaman kuukauden. Askarteluinto katosi sen myötä, mutta koska olo on nyt raskauden puolivälissä huomattavasti parempi, odottelen skräppäysmotivaation paluuta lähiviikkoina.

It is the fourth and most probably the last baby growing in my tummy and the good old sickness returned for a few months. I lost all the interest in crafts when feeling so sick and tired but now I am half way through the pregnancy and feeling much better. Hopefully the craft motivation returns in the next few weeks!

Suuri askartelu-uutinen ja saavutus oli Paperilla-lehden ilmestyminen ensin nettiversiona (lue ilmaiseksi täältä!) ja sitten ihan printtinäkin ja se onkin saatavilla kaupoissa juuri nyt! Olen saanut olla lehden design teamissa mukana ja se olikin varsin jännittävää ja opettavaista aikaa itse kullekin!

A big craft achievement this autumn has been the publication of Paperilla magazine (a Finnish papercraft magazine) where I got to be part of the DT. The magazine was first published as a digital version (read it for free here!) and the as a print magazine which is now available in shops in Finland.

Hieman askartelua olensentään lasten kanssa tehnyt ja lisäksi väkersin lahjapussit opettajien lahjoja varten. Tässä simppeli pussiohje, syntyvät sopivasti lahjapaperista, jota joka taloudesta varmasti löytyy tähän aikaan vuodesta!

Some crafts I have managed to do with the children and I also made some little gift bags for the teacher gifts. Here is a simple tutorial for the bags that are easy to make using gift wrap paper that every household surely has this time of year!

1. Valitse mieleisesi lahjapaperi. Pick a gift wrap of your choice.

2. Näitä pusseja (n. 14x21cm taiteltuna) varten leikkasin 30x27cm palaset paperista. Taita lyhyet sivut suunilleen keskelle ja kiinnitä kaksipuoleisella teipillä. For these bags (approx. 14x21cm when folded) I needed pieces of 30x27cm in size. Fold the shorter sides towards the middle and attach with some double sided tape.

3. Leikkaa sekä ylä- että alareuna siksak-kuviosaksilla. Cut both top and bottom edges with zigzag scissors.

4. Käännä alareuna ja liimaa se kiinni. Fold in the bottom and attach with glue.

5. Täytä pienillä lahjoilla! Tällä kertaa opettajille menevät herkullisen tuoksuiset saippuat ja lumiukkosuklaat. Fill the bags with little gifts! This time the teachers will get delicious looking soaps and snowman chocolates.

Tuttu sisäänkäynti – Welcoming Doorway / DT Merly Impressions

Syksy on jo hyvällä mallilla, ja silti tai ehkä juuri siksi ajatukset välillä palaavat kesään. Teki mieli tallentaa kuva rakkaasta sisäänkäynnistä kesäpaikassa, jonne en luultavasti valitettavasti enää voi palata, koska paikka on myynnissä. Oli siis tärkeää laittaa muistoja talteen!

I have been happy crafting with my favorite Base Coat Collection again! As autumn is now definitely here my thoughts have drifted back to the warm summer days and I wanted to scrapbook a picture of a dear doorway from a summer place of ours in Finland, which is now for sale unfortunately, and most probably I will never have a chance to visit the lovely place again. This doorway has welcomed us for so many years to enjoy the summer days surrounded by beautiful nature.

Käytä leimoja! – Use your stamps! / DT Merly Impressions

Tykkään keksiä lisäkäyttötarkoituksia askartelutarvikkeilleni. Varsinkin semmoisille, jotka välillä jäävät käyttämättä. Leimasimet ovat monille varmasti sellaisia, niitä on kasapäin, mutta vain muutamaa tulee käytettyä. Yleisin tapa itselleni käyttää leimoja, on leimailla skräppisivun taustaa. Tätä sivua varten teinkin vähän toisin. Leimasin erilliselle paperille ja leikkasin leimatut kuvat irti ja käytin niitä koristeina sivussa. Tämä pieni tutoriaali on tänään Merly Impressions –blogissa. Merly Impressionsin Kaiser Craft -valikoima on ihanan laaja ja he toimittavat myös Suomeen!

I always like to find new ways of making the most of my supplies and today I am going to share one of my favorite things to do. Now, we all have stamps which we often don’t use, right? The most common way for me to use stamps is to stamp on the background of a layout. This time I stamped the images on a separate piece of paper and then I cut the image out and used it as an embellishment. This little tutorial is up at Merly Impressions blog today. I love the variety of Kaiser Craft products they carry and the do ship around Europe!

Nuo mannekiininuket ovat niitä, joita nyt tarkoitan. Leimatut ja leikatut.

See those mannequin dolls next to the photo? That is what I am talking about. First, you need a stamp. I used a lovely Kaiser Craft Dress Form stamp.

Leimasin kuvan muutamalle eri kuviopapereille, jotka kaivoin esille silppulaatikostani.

Stamp one or more images on a paper of your choice. I used some papers from my scraps. I wanted to have patterned papers this time but plain colored ones can be used as well.

Leikkasin kuvat irti käyttäen teräviä pikkusaksia.

The next step is to do some fussy cutting. Good small scissors are helpful!

Once you have cut all your pieces out it is time to use them on your layout.

In my layout, done with the fantastic Base Coat Collection, the dress form dolls somehow, to me, represent the past and the people who lived in this gorgeous Dunnottar Castle in Scotland long time ago. This place was one of my favorite places to visit during the time we lived in Scotland. Such breathtaking views with the feeling of standing right at the edge of the world!

Some Mixed media in a card and in art journaling / DT Allt om Scrap

Tällä viikolla Allt om Scrap -nettilehdessä on puhetta mixed mediasta ja art journalingista. Sehän sopi minulle ja olipa hauskaa DTläisenä päästä tekemään töitä tällä teemalla. Tämän aukeaman tein itse asiassa Prozart-tapahtumassa Puolassa.

This week at Allt om Scrap, a Swedish online magazine, the theme has been art journaling and mixed media. I love both so was all excited to start working on this subject as a DT member. This art journaling page I actually made at the Prozart event in Poland.

Supplies: Prima, 3rd Eye, Tattered Angels

Sivun aloitin peittamällä aukeaman kokonaan paperikukkasilla, jotka liimasin kiinni ja yli maalasin valkoisella akryylimaalilla päälle.

I first covered the pages with Prima’s paper flowers using glue. I then painted some white acrylic paint over the whole thing.

Maalin kuivuttua vuorossa oli tekstuuripasta maskin läpi, 3rd Eyen leimat sekä hieman mistejä.

After the paint was dry I used some structure paste through a mask, a few different 3rd Eye stamps and some mists.

Mixed media pääsi korttiinkin, joka oli Allt om Scrapin aikaisemmassa postauksessa mukana, teemana silloin syksyinen Mood Board.

Mixed Media played an important role in a card too which I created for Allt om Scrap’s Mood Board with autumn colors.
