Rikki – Broken with photo printing tutorial / DT Skräppihetket

Tänään alkaa uusi haaste Skräppihetket -blogissa, teemalla “Rikki”. Tavarat voivat olla rikki, mutta niin myös vaikka tunteet ja odotuksetkin. Mukana haasteessa on myös tekemäni luonnos, jota voi käyttää halutessaan.

‘Broken’ is the topic for the new challenge at Scrap Moments blog today. There are many things that can break, not only items but also feelings or expectations for example. There is a sketch by me to be used if you want. My DT Layout is about torn jeans that we have so many in our house. Why is it that the boys’ trousers keep tearing from the knees?!

Halusin käyttää koko sivun kokoista valokuvaa ja keksin keinon, jolla se onnistui tavallista A4-valokuvatulostinta käyttämällä.

I wanted to use a large 12×12 (almost) photo and managed to come up with a system how to do it at home with my A4 size photo printer.

Aloitin siirtämällä kuvan Word-tiedostoon. Suurensin sen niin suureksi kuin mahdollista pitäen muodon neliönä ja kopioin kahdelle sivulle (ks. kuva yläpuolella).

I started by inserting the photo onto a Word file. I enlarged the square photo as much as possible while still keeping it within the margins of the page and then copied it onto two pages as you can see above. 

Seuraavaksi  leikkasin molemmista kuvista pois puolet, ensimmäisestä kuvasta alaosan (ks. kuva yläpuolella) ja toisen sivun kuvasta yläosan.

Next I cropped half off from both of the pictures; from the first one I cropped the bottom part (see the pic above) and from the second one I cropped the top part.

Viimeinen vaihe on kääntää leikatut kuvat sivuttain ja suurentaa ne koko sivun pituisiksi, molemmat kuvat omilla sivuillaan. Pidä huoli, että kuvat ovat samankokoisia. Tulosta kuvat.

The last stage is to rotate the pics and again enlarge them as much as possible making sure both of the pictures are the same size. Print the photos.

Leikkaa kuvat ja yhdistä ne tarkasti oikeasta kohdasta. Käytin itse teippiä kuvien kääntöpuolella niiden yhdistämiseen ja kiinnitin ne yhtenäisenä isona kuvana leiskaan. Huomaatko leiskassa kuvien yhdistämiskohtaa? Minä en, joten tämä menetelmä osoittautui todella hyväksi! Kuvia voi totta kai tilata suurina, mutta harvoin minä olen niin järjestelmällinen, että saisin sen tehtyä ajoissa. Yleensä leiskaa aloittaessani päätän mitä kuvaa haluan käyttää ja tulostan sen tarpeideni mukaisena.

Trim the photos and attach them together carefully. I used clear tape at the back of the photos to keep them together and only then attached the whole thing onto the layout. Can you see the joining line on the layout? I can’t so this method proved to be excellent! Of course you can order big prints but I am not that organised meaning I don’t have time to wait for orders to arrive. I normally decide what I am going to do and which pic to use right then when I begin to work on my layout I want to be able to print the photo when I want and as I want. This method was a delightful addition to my photo printing!

Inspiroiduin ystäväni Riikan otsikkotutoriaalista ja sovelsin sitä heti Practical Scrappersin ‘Otsikko’-teemaan tänään. Minä(kään) en omista sähköistä leikkuria ja oli kiva huomata, että perinteisilläkin välineillä saa aikaan kaunista jälkeä, ehkä vaan vähän hitaammin kuin elektronisesti.

I was inspired by my friend Riikka’s title tutorial and I applied it to the Practical Scrappers’ theme ‘Titles’ today. I don’t own an electronic cutting machine and it was fun to notice you can create something eyecatching and pretty even with the traditional methods and tools.

This is how I made the title:

1. Ota pala kuviopaperia. Hahmottele  teksti siihenlyijykynällä. Tässä tummassa paperissa lyijykynän jälki ei lopputuloksessa haittaa ollenkaan, vaaleammasta sen voisi kumittaa pois tai kirjoittaa tekstin peilikuvana paperin kääntöpuolelle.

Take a piece of patterned paper and doodle the text with a pencil. On this dark paper I used the pencil marks don’t matter, from a lighter paper they can be erased with an eraser or you could doodle the text on the back side of the paper as mirror image.

2. Leikkaa otsikko saksilla ja paperiveitsellä.

Cut the title with scissors and paper knife. 

3. Koristele halutessasi. Minä tummensin reunat musteella ja tein “ompeleet” valkoisella geelikynällä.

Decorate if needed. I inked the edges and used a white gel pen to draw fake stitching.

Matkalla maailmaan – On his way into the world / DT About a Boy

Valkoinen ja yksi muu väri on teemana About a Boy – haasteblogissa kuun loppuun saakka. Tässä DT-työni haasteeseen väreinäni valkoinen & harmaa.

White + 1 is the current challenge at About a Boy. It means that you use white with one other color on your layout so your page will basically have only two colors on it. Here is my take as a DT Member with color white & grey.

Tykkään tehdä näitä tagisivuja. Jokaisen tagin voi koristella erikseen, eri tyylillä ja eri materiaaleilla. Näin tästä tulee ikään kuin monta pientä sivua yhdessä sivussa!

I like making these tag layouts as you can decorate each tag separately with different materials and using different techniques. So you get several tiny pages on one layout!

 

 

 

 

 

Dream big, jump high! DT Practical Scrappers

Practical Scrappersin teemana tänään tiistaina on vesivärit. Suhteellisen  haastavaa minulle, mutta kokeilla piti kuitenkin! Tein taustan vesiväreillä gessokerroksen päälle. Värjäsin myös valkoisia paperi- ja kanvaskukkia vesiväreillä.

Water colors is the theme today at Practical Scrappers. Slightly challenging for me, but I quite like the outcome. I made the background using water colors on a layer of gesso. I also colored some white paper and canvas  flowers with water colors.

Supermaman päiväkirja – Journaling of Supermama / DT

Joskus, tai aika usein, sattuu kohdalle kiireisiä, jopa hengästyttäviä päiviä. Silloin on hauska kirjoitella ylös mitä kaikkea päivän aikana ehtikään tapahtua ja mitä saatiin aikaan. Tämmöisiä on hauska lukea jälkeenpäin!

Sometimes, quite often actually, I have these crazy busy days. I find it fun to document what all happened, what we achieved on these days when I am out of breath most of the time. Sorry, this time the journaling only in Finnish.

Here is my documentation of one of those super busy days when I felt like Supermama dealing with all the things, multitasking and managing everything. It will be fun to read afterwards! I made this double layout as DT work for Scrap Moments newest challenge: journaling combined with a sketch.

Kevätkerroksia – Spring layers / DT Practical Scrappers

Keväällä pukeutuminen on haasteellista. Aamulla viedessäni lapsia kouluun, on lämpötila lähellä nollaa, mutta tunnin päästä takaisin kävellessäni aurinko lämmittää jo reippaasti. Parhaaksi pukeutumissuunnitelmaksi olen havainnut kerrospukeutumisen, jota voi lisätä ja vähentää tarpeen mukaan lastenrattaita työntäen ilman, että tarvitsee pysähtyä.

It is a tricky thing to find the right thing to wear in the spring during the school runs. It is rather cold when I leave the house with the children and walk to the school. An hour later with the sun it is already really warm. The best solution for clothing for me is layers that I can reduce or increase as and when needed without having to stop walking and pushing the pram.

Nauhojen säilytyksestä – Storage ideas for lace and ribbon / DT Practical Scrappers

Nauhojen ja pitsien säilytys on ollut oikea ongelma minulle. Ne ovat lojuneet sotkuisena myttynä millon missäkin, useimmiten vielä useammassa paikassa, laatikossa, purkissa, korissa jne. Kauneimmille nauhoille ja pitseille olen löytänyt kivan ja kauniin ratkaisun: vanhat lankarullat. Omani olen löytänyt askartelukaupasta sekä kirpputoreilta.

My ribbons and bits of lace have been totally neglected – they have been in a tangled mess in a basket or in a jar or a box. Now finally the best and prettiest of them have been sorted! Old wood spools are so pretty even on their own! They can be found in some craft stores and at carboot sales and flea markets.

Kenkäystävät – Unexpected Friendship & Giveaway

On ollut vähän taukoa haasteisiin osallistumieessa, elämä on ollut kamalan kiireistä! Nyt kuitenkin ehdin tekaista yhden sivun CSIn haasteeseen #69. Tein sivun kengistä, jotka ihan sattumalta päätyivät jalkaani mieheni ollessa kenkäkaupassa ostamassa kenkiä. En ole mikään kenkätyyppi, minulla on kenkiä koska niitä tarvitaan, ei siksi että niistä erityisesti olisin kiinnostunut kuten monet naiset tuntuvat olevan. Nämä kengät tuntuivat niin hyvältä jalassa ja ovat vielä hyvännäköisetkin, että ne oli pakko ostaa!

My life has been so hectic lately that I haven’t had any extra scrapping time for challenges. Now finally I managed to put together a page for the new CSI challenge #69. I made a layout about shoes. I have found shoes that I like – feels like I have found a new friend! And I am not one for shoes really, I have them because one has to but I am definitely not obsessed about shoes like so many women seem to be! However, just by luck I found these without even looking.

Taustalla on ihana Kaiser Craftin paperi, tuo tiilinen, johon mistailin ja leimailin. Tuo 3rd Eyen ruusuleima on yksi lemppareistani (voit voittaa samanlaisen itsellesi: FB-sivullani on arvonta)!

The background is a lovely patterned paper from Kaiser Craft. I used mists and stamps – the 3rd Eye’s rose stamp is one of my favorites! If you want to win one of those roses make sure you take part in the giveaway I have on my FB page!

Alphabet Tutorial

Tarvitsin tietyn sävyisiä kirjaimia erääseen työhön enkä löytänyt mieleisiäni omien tarvikkeideni joukosta. Niipä ryhdyin tekemään niitä itse!

I needed a particular color scheme of alphabets for a project and there was nothing suitable in my stash. So I decided to make my own!

Tarvitset tietokoneen, kopiopaperin ja tulostimen. Luo esim. Wordissa yhden sivun kokoinen aakkosdokumentti. Fonttia voit vaihtaa tilanteen mukaan. Tulosta sivu.

You need a computer, a sheet of copy paper and a printer. Create a document (e.g. in Word) with alphabets. You can change the font to match your projects. Print.

Valitse kolme tai neljä eri mustesävyä.

Choose a few different ink shades.

Levitä mustetta kirjainten päälle.

Rub the different colored inks on the copy paper.

Suihkuta muutamaa erisävyistä mistiä ja hieman vesiroiskeita musteen päälle.

Spray a little bit of water and a few different shades of mists on top of the ink. 

Kun lopputulos miellyttää, anna kuivua.

When you are happy with how the paper looks let it dry completely.

Käytä joko pientä ympyräleikkuria tai neliöleikkuria kirjainten leikkaamiseen.

Use a little circle or square punch to cut the letters out.

Nämä kirjaimet pääsivät käyttöön sivussa, jonka tein vetäessäni skräppäyskurssia paikallisessa askartelukaupassa. Tällä menetelmällä voi luoda lukemattomia eri väriyhdistelmiä ja sävyjä kirjaimiin. Fonttia ja kokoa on helppo vaihtaa, jos tallennat yhden version kirjaimista tietokoneellesi.

These letters were used on a layout I made for my class at the local craft store Crafty Daze. With this method you can create numerous color combinations and shades on your alphabets. If you save one version of the alphabets on your computer you can then easily change the font and the size later on.

Pitsisen ympyrän leikkasimme Sizzixin Thinlits-stanssilla voipaperista ja värjäsimme alkoholimusteilla.

The doily was cut using Sizzix Thinlits die on grease proof paper and then colored with alcohol inks.
